Thomas and Coad quit Quakers

Darlington

Darlington manager Alun Armstrong has temporarily taken over the club’s academy after two coaches shocked Quakers by resigning.

Head of academy Paul Thomas and lead coach Matthew Coad both quit last week, with the club saying: “Paul and Matthew both leave with our best wishes, and we would like to thank them for their work in the Academy.

“In the meantime, first team manager Alun Armstrong – who has Academy experience from his coaching spell at Middlesbrough — has stepped in to run the Academy on a short-term basis until a permanent successor is found.”

Armstrong will assisted by first team players David Atkinson and Jarrett Rivers.

Meanwhile, Quakers’ first team commence pre-season training on Saturday at Eastbourne Sports Complex in Darlington, with their campaign due to begin on October 3.

*Darlington’s youth team has been drawn away to the winners of a preliminary round tie between Pickering and Cleator Moor Celtic in the first qualifying round. The tie is to be played week commencing Monday, September 21.
