Jim Wilson goal enough to seal victory for Darlington Town

Wilson the match-winner for second-placed Town

Darlington Town 2020-21

Jim Wilson’s goal was enough to secure a three points for Darlington Town that takes them up to second in the table.

They won 1-0 last night at Eastbourne Sports Complex against the rejuvenated Annfield Plain.

The opposition have had a fresh start with a new manager since they were battered 16-0 by Horden CW a month ago.

After that result they postponed their scheduled meeting with Town, and then with a new group of players won back-to-back matches against Darlington RA and Washington United.

But Town did enough to beat them last night, and now are two points behind Horden after seven games played each.

It was a scrappy first half with no goals, Plain’s goalkeeper making a great save to keep the score level.

But the deadlock was broken after 73 minutes, Wilson with a cracking strike from outside the box into the top corner.

Next up: Town are away to Windscale on Saturday (2.30pm) at the Falcon Complex.
